Part One:

The Relationship Between Salt and Cholesterol

In this text I will try to expose/explain some very simple changes that will make nearly everyone (as in everything else, there are exceptions) healthier and most importantly, with a bullet proof immune system.

Let us first address the misconception we (at least in my country) have about cholesterol. As I wrote between parenthesis, in my country, a nation wide brainwash programming of the masses is done regularly to alert people to the dangers of cholesterol. In the news, in television and radio adds, we are taught that it is a killer that must be eradicated at all costs. The real intent being the commercial lobby of products advertising cholesterol lowering level abilities. Lets first see what a quick search can tell us about this substance:

What is cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that’s found in all the cells in your body. Your body needs some cholesterol to make hormones, vitamin D, and substances that help you digest foods. Your body makes all the cholesterol it needs. Cholesterol is also found in foods from animal sources, such as egg yolks, meat, and cheese.

If you have too much cholesterol in your blood, it can combine with other substances in the blood to form plaque. Plaque sticks to the walls of your arteries. This build up of plaque is known as atherosclerosis. It can lead to coronary artery disease, where your coronary arteries become narrow or even blocked.

While I agree with all the above, its the cause of its increased levels in the body that I would like to refute. We tend to think it is caused by the ingestion of fat rich foods, and we would be right, but only in those cases where this type of foods are abused. The real cause of high levels of cholesterol, especially in people with a varied diet is none other than Salt. Where is why, most people I know or talk to, use mineral salt, or worse, refined mineral salt, that is what is used in most restaurants and all other types of places that serves any type of food. Mineral salt is made of three elements, Sodium Chloride, Glass and Silica. When ingested, both glass and silica manage to get into your blood stream and, as I think is easy to understand, these very little particles scratch the walls in our veins, damaging them. This originates a chain reaction resulting in the body producing, concentrating and using Cholesterol to repair the damaged areas. With the continuous use of these types of salt, these areas can get excessive levels of this element thus obstructing the veins, with serious consequences.

So what can we do to change this?

The answer is amazingly simple, change your habits and use just and only unprocessed hand picked Sea Salt. The more humidity you find in the containing package, the better it is. Sea Salt composition is very different from the mineral variant. First of all, it contains virtually no silica and no glass, but adding to the obvious Sodium Chloride, it has the same 88 Oligoelements that are present in our blood. I usually explain the difference by remembering people that in an emergency, when immediate assistance is not possible in the case of severe blood loss, we can save one’s person live by using a simple solution of sea salt and water directly into the veins. Do the same with mineral salt and you will kill the person in question.

In the last years, (I know this will create controversy) a trend has been created about Himalayan Salt, it is presented as a nearly magical ingredient with countless beneficial results to one’s health. I will admit it is richer than common mineral salt, but it is mineral salt still, with all its disadvantages. On the other hand, those inclined to follow my suggestion, might be tempted to over-correct and go for Fleur de Sel, or Flower of Salt, this being the the thin layer of saline crystals that forms on the surface of the “crystallizers” of our traditional Salinas. Once again, this is but another example of clever merchandising. This because, what really happens, is that during the sea water evaporation, all the “good stuff” flows down into the lower areas of the salt, making the more expensive flower on top useless, and far from being as good as the cheaper lower sea salt.

On part two, I will write about Alkaline Water and Baking Soda

Questions are welcomed.
